Intertek Ice Maker Manual and the 3149457 Label

The Intertek ETL mark on a no-name ice maker is a safety listing, not a brand. Here is how to trace the real maker and model, plus the steps most of these machines share.

By Scott Carswell · Updated · Facts checked 4 October 2026

There is no Intertek ice maker manual, because Intertek does not make ice makers. Intertek is a testing lab, and the ETL mark with the number 3149457 on your machine is a safety listing that points to the factory. Intertek's own Authorization to Mark for control number 3149457 names Ningbo Hicon Industry Technology Co., Ltd. in China as the manufacturer of a family of countertop ice makers.

So the manual you need belongs to the brand on your box or rating label. This page shows how to find that brand and model, and gives the setup, cleaning and troubleshooting steps these bullet-ice machines share.

What the ETL mark and control number mean

The ETL Listed mark shows that a product was tested to North American safety standards and that the factory is audited. Intertek's labeling guidelines say an ETL label has three parts:

  • The ETL mark itself. A "C" at its lower left means the product meets a Canadian standard. "US" at its lower right means it meets a US standard.
  • A control number. Intertek issues it for one applicant and manufacturer combination. It is five to eleven digits long and unique to the manufacturing site for each applicant. It usually sits under the ETL mark.
  • The standards wording, such as "Conforms to UL STD 563".

The control number identifies who applied and where the product is made. It is not a model number. Intertek's mark usage guide tells companies to make clear which product carries the certification.

What 3149457 refers to

We found an Intertek Authorization to Mark for control number 3149457, issued 2 January 2024 for report SH10011256-001. A retailer hosts it as a product document. It states:

  • Applicant and manufacturer: Ningbo Hicon Industry Technology Co., Ltd., Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China.
  • Product: Ice Maker.
  • Standards: UL 563 (Ice Makers) and CSA C22.2 No. 120 (Refrigeration Equipment).
  • Brand names: HICON, Antarctic Star, AGLUCKY, R.W.FLAME, Free Village, Kismile, Kndko, Joy Pebble, COWSAR and KISSAIR.
  • Models: a long list in the HZB series, including HZB-12E, HZB-12N, HZB-15N, HZB-17N, HZB-18N, HZB-20N, HZB-22N, HZB-25N, HZB-30D and variants with A, B, C, D, N or /S suffixes.

This is one document. The same control number can sit on other reports for the same factory, so other brands may also carry 3149457. If your brand is not on the list above, your machine can still come from this factory. Check your rating label for the model number.

How to find the real maker and model

  1. Read the rating label. It is usually on the back or underside of the machine. It lists the model number, voltage and refrigerant. Models from this factory often start with "HZB".
  2. Check the box and the front of the manual. The brand name and a customer service contact are usually printed there.
  3. Check your order. The seller's page or order confirmation names the brand and often the model.
  4. Search Intertek's directory. Intertek's ETL Listed Mark directory lets you look up certified products. Building products sit in a separate directory listed on Intertek's directories page.
  5. Look for an FCC ID. Basic ice makers rarely have one. If yours has Wi-Fi or an app and the label shows an FCC ID, you can search it in the FCC ID database.

Where to find the manual

  • Contact the brand on your box or order. Many sellers will email a PDF.
  • Search the exact model number on ManualsLib or on large retailer sites. Retailers often host manuals as product documents.
  • Search the model number with the word "manual". Units with the same HZB model number from different brands may share the same controls.

As an example of what these manuals contain, we use the manual for an HZB-12/H portable ice maker below. HZB-12/H is not on the 3149457 model list, so treat it as a typical example and check your own manual for differences.

Typical setup and use

  1. Remove all packaging and the tapes that hold the ice shovel, ice basket and scoop in place.
  2. Place the unit on a level counter away from sunlight and heat. That manual asks for at least 4 inches of clearance at the back and sides.
  3. Wait before plugging in so the refrigerant can settle. That manual says two hours. Other brands say one hour, so follow yours.
  4. Clean the inside with diluted detergent and warm water. Rinse and drain through the drain cap.
  5. Plug into a grounded 110-120 V outlet with nothing else on it.
  6. Remove the ice basket, fill with drinking water below the MAX mark and put the basket back.
  7. Press ON/OFF. That manual gives a cycle time of about 6 to 13 minutes, depending on ice size and room temperature.

That manual recommends a room temperature of 50 to 105°F and water at 40 to 90°F. Change the water every 24 hours, and drain and dry the tank if you will not use the unit.

Typical cleaning

Button functions vary by model. On the HZB-12/H, you hold ON/OFF for more than 5 seconds to start self-cleaning, and the Ice Full and Add Water lights flash during the cycle. Afterward you drain the water through the outlet at the bottom. For a routine clean, unplug the unit, wipe the inside with diluted detergent and warm water, rinse, drain and dry. These machines use R600a, a flammable refrigerant. The manuals say repairs to the cooling system must be done by trained service staff. Do not puncture the tubing or use tools to chip away ice.

When to stop troubleshooting

If the cycle runs but never makes ice, the manuals point to the sealed cooling system, which needs a qualified technician. Our reliability section explains what tends to fail on countertop machines.
